Kay Murray



A little about me, I am an ambitious wife, and mom of one daughter, who is my pride and joy. I enjoy watching her grow and succeed in her daily routines. I work hard and have been successful in my efforts. My hope is that my work ethics and standards will illuminate as she matures in her personal and professional life.  As a lifelong native of Tidewater, my knowledge of the area has been an asset in my work environments. I grew up in Chesapeake and come from a long line of successful entrepreneurs. With my parents being the most powerful influence on my work ethic.

I have over 15 years of experience in the accounting and bookkeeping field, working primarily in the construction field, with a concentration in the roofing and heating and air sectors. I started my career with a roofing wholesaler where I started out as an inside sales representative. From there I grew into a position that was responsible for accounts payable, receivable, financial reporting, payroll accounting, and benefits administration for several locations. After leaving roofing and the H&A industry, I freelanced my bookkeeping skills for several builders and small companies.  Some of this was volunteer work.  I have succeeded in helping many companies organize and maintain accurate accounting records. In my spare time, I have also worked for a local non-profit, where I successfully transferred a decade of financial records into QuickBooks, which resulted in reduced labor costs and improved processes for accounts payable and receivable. I came to work for SMI in 2016, where I enjoy my work and have loved the family atmosphere that encompasses the business. As a personal goal and to solidify my knowledge currently, I am pursuing my degree in Accounting and becoming a certified payroll specialist and plan to graduate in December of 2020.
